Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low income South Dakotans buy the food they need to stay healthy while they work to regain financial independence. SNAP benefits are provided to supplement the recipients food budget. The amount of benefits a household receives is based on its size and income.
In South Dakota during July 2002, 47,700 people (18,400 households) received $3.6 million in SNAP benefits. The average monthly benefit was $75 per person or $200 per household.
SNAP recipients are given a plastic debit card (Dakota EBT Card) instead of paper coupons. The store cashier runs the debit card through a point-of-sale device to subtract the recipient's purchase amount from their allotted benefits. Using the card is much faster and easier than using paper coupons and eliminates loss or theft of SNAP benefits.
South Dakota SNAP operates under the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of South Dakota and fall into one of two groups: (1) those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps people to buy and eat nutritious food. The modern SNAP program was set up in 1971. The Federal government pays most of the costs of the SNAP program. Each state operates a SNAP program following rules from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Today, people access SNAP benefits by Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT), a plastic swipe card that looks like a credit or debit card. If you are disabled and qualify for SNAP, you can designate another person to do food shopping with your SNAP card.

The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, nutrition education and referrals to health care, at no cost, to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five who are determined to be at nutritional risk. To be fully eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must be determined by a health professional, at no cost, to be at nutritional risk (i.e., have certain medical-based or diet-based risk conditions).

My imagination seems to be running out on what to cook. Does anyone know of good recipes which are easy to make and does not consume too much time. I get tired of meat and potatoes with vegtables. In need of good nutritious meals. My weakest point in cooking I am a very last minute planner. I have to watch what I cook cause husband has high blood pressure. When I become real lazy I use my crock pot and through in the meat potatoes and any kind of vegetable that I like into that and just let it go. On occassion I will make pasta but that doesn't last long for later we will become hungery again real quick. Please need help. Thankyou all
At last have something to make that I have not made since 1987 found the receipe by accident last night when looking for something totally different well here it is.

Investing in Seattle's children and families is a smart strategy. Healthy families provide the kind of loving and supportive environment that children need to thrive. Healthy families also build safe and vibrant communities and strengthen neighborhood schools, which in turn benefits the entire city.
The City of Seattle builds community and organizational partnerships to provide a strong support system for children and families in five primary areas:
* Family Support * School Readiness and Preschool * Child Care * After-School Services * Nutrition
The Seattle Human Services Department focuses on providing these important services to children, low-income families and special populations such as deaf and deaf/blind parents, teen parents and immigrants and refugees.
I know that when I get home from work I am soooooo tired and the last thing I want to do is cook. But the most importat thing is providing my girls with a nutritious meal. To be honest we usually end up eating chicken nuggets, french fries, oven pizza's, cheap fast food or soup. What are some quick, easy, inexpensive, but healthy, meal ideas for the busy single mom? If anyone has any ideas or recipies with a short prep time please post them here.

W.I.C. (Women, Infants, and Children) is a federal program designed to help pregnant/nursing mothers, and children 0-5 get a nutritional supplement to their diet. They offer same day appointments in most states, and your vouchers are given to you the day of your appointment. You'll need to have proof of income, child's birth, and something to verify your address (a bill). The first appointment is generally an hour, but pick ups are once every three months and generally take 15-30 minutes, with re-certs taking 30-60 minutes. They are well worth checking out to provide something extra. The website will provide you a list of the WIC offices near you.
This specifically is the income guideline that most people wonder about, thinking they won't qualify. A family of 4 can make up to 39,200 a year! So, don't think you won't qualify.
I'm a single mum of two glorious kids, one of each kind. I'va been alone with them since they were borne - or earlier...even if they have the same dad. I have been working full time ever since, as well as studying alongside because of a dream of a better life for us. Two years ago I met Mr. right, and all of a sudden my kid's father stood on the doorstep, claiming his rights... and they were MANY... Now I stand in the middle of two children terrified due to years of threats and bribes, and horrible consequenses all realized in a to say the least hard way for little kids, and an outrageous father who wont let anything stand in his way of what is rightfully his: vanity...in between I have Mr right who is the only male in my acquaintance that hasn't been beaten up or threatened to it by the same father... as well as high attourney fees to keep my children's childhood safe and secure... the university course I succeeded at last to get into this fall, which I hardly manage to follow, and my work that I need for us to keep us from drowning.
Now I sense that the drowning part is nearby and coming closer at speed. I can't keep up the high speed in both working, taking care of broken children, studying and trying to be in love now and then as well. So I feel that I am falling and falling hard. The economy is below all critic, I stand alone with both survival loans, child support, attourney fees, expensive rent and above all study loans. All I want is to maintain my children's wellfare, to be able to give them some clothes and nutrition. Any small amount would help us big time.
Hope that one day soon enough I can log in to this page and help all of u with needs in here!
I need money in order to go back to college. I already have a lot of loans. I had to transfer to a public school and I've yet to enroll because of financial problems. My mom is laid off and we spent my savings bonds to buy our house.
